Support Our Campaign To Pass A Law Reversing Mandatory Retail Sales Tax At Martial Arts Schools in Washington State
An Association of school owners in Washington State desperately need your financial support!
Washington State passed an unfair and discriminatory law in 2015 that singled out martial arts schools and requires them to charge up to 9.6% retail sales tax on literally everything they do starting January 1, 2016. Instructors and school owners had no representation in Olympia to protect them. As a result this was passed with no opportunity for feedback or notification to a single school owner during deliberation.
This law will drive many schools out of business and make it much harder for families to afford martial arts for their children and for adults to receive self-defense and culturally enriching educational opportunities.
A small group of school owners have begun the herculean task of organizing school owners and concerned citizens in less than 11 weeks to combat this law.
We need to raise $20,000 for professional representation in Olympia during the 2016 legislative session or we fear Washington residents will be saddled with this law forever. We would also like to raise another $10,000 to $20,000 to fund this new Association through 2017.
The GREAT NEWS is that laws have already been proposed in the House and Senate but they are by no means guaranteed to pass unless we have the resources to reach legislators across the entire state over the next 2 months.
Your contribution will help assure that this happens and return martial arts instruction to fair treatment under the WA state tax code.
ALL donations are appreciated and will be accepted. Donate any amount that fits your budget but remember just ONE YEAR of taxes will easily exceed $150 anywhere in the state unless we get this reversed.
